Amethyst Basil

Purple basil, Purple genovese

The only purple variety of classic sweet basil. Thick, large rounded leaves with a deep purple color, nearly black when mature. Hardy and upright, shorter than most other basil varieties.

Thinning technique

After you've transplanted your seedlings to the grow shelf. Each pod should be thinned to 1 - 2 seedlings. To do this pull out the excess seedlings using a pair of tweezers or your fingers gently.

 

Harvesting technique

Find two of the largest leaves on the stem and locate the two small leaf nodes just above the larger set. Cut just above the two small nodes, about halfway down the plant.
